Cheapest Magnesium Glycinate (2026): Cost per 200 mg, Ranked

The cheapest pure magnesium glycinate we price is Nutricost Magnesium Glycinate 210 mg: $0.20 per 200 mg of magnesium at list price. BulkSupplements Magnesium Glycinate Powder costs less ($0.13), but its label adds oxide, so it is a blend. Our pick, Revive MD Magnesium Glycinate, is $0.33 per 200 mg ($0.33 a day) and on the Informed Sport list. Nature Made costs the most per mg ($0.73 per 200 mg) and is the only one here on USP’s testing list.

Every magnesium glycinate we track, ranked by cost per 200 mg

Cost per 200 mg is the list price divided by all the magnesium in the bottle, times 200. The dose is the Supplement Facts line named Magnesium, not the weight of the compound. Cheapest first; products with no list price come last, unranked.

It is the only one here on USP’s testing list; the magnesium itself is the same. At 300 mg a day, a year costs about $109 at the low end and $401 at the high end.

The number that matters: magnesium, not the compound

The “Magnesium” line on the Supplement Facts panel is the magnesium itself (the elemental amount), not the weight of the whole compound (NIH). Magnesium glycinate is about 14% magnesium by weight, so a capsule sold as “magnesium glycinate 1,400 mg” holds about 200 mg of magnesium. Divide the price by the Magnesium line, never by the number on the front.

We read 149 glycinate labels: the median serving is 250 mg

From 827 labels sold as magnesium glycinate (NIH label database, August 27, 2026), 149 list glycinate or bisglycinate on the Supplement Facts panel. The median serving gives 250 mg of magnesium and the median capsule or tablet 111 mg. Only 32.9% give 400 mg or more in one serving, so the number of capsules in a dose decides the cost more than the bottle price. 56.4% also name another magnesium form on the panel.

How we read the labels

827 labels sold as magnesium glycinate were pulled from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database on August 27, 2026; the 149 that list glycinate or bisglycinate on the Supplement Facts panel were read. We split the labels into two groups and print only figures that came out the same in both. Download the data (JSON) (CC BY 4.0). It cannot tell you whether a capsule holds what its label says; that is what a testing list checks.

What a higher price buys

Not better magnesium. No trial has compared glycinate brands. A higher price can buy a place on a public testing list (USP or NSF), which checks that the capsule holds what the label says. A lower price can hide a blend: if the brackets on the Magnesium line name oxide too, part of the dose is oxide. In the one trial that compared glycinate with oxide at the same dose (100 mg, in 12 people who had part of their small bowel removed), overall absorption was about the same (23.5% vs 22.8%), and glycinate was better tolerated by every patient (Schuette 1994). Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest magnesium glycinate?

At each brand’s list price, the cheapest pure glycinate we price is Nutricost Magnesium Glycinate 210 mg, $0.20 per 200 mg of magnesium. BulkSupplements Magnesium Glycinate Powder costs less, $0.13, but its label names glycinate and oxide, so it is a blend. The cheapest capsule or tablet is Nutricost Magnesium Glycinate 210 mg, $0.20. Prices on Amazon differ.

Why does the bottle say 1,400 mg but the label says 200 mg?

The front can print the weight of the whole compound. Magnesium glycinate is about 14% magnesium by weight, so “magnesium glycinate 1,400 mg” and “magnesium 200 mg” can describe the same capsule. The Supplement Facts line named Magnesium is the real dose. Of the 149 glycinate labels we read, the median capsule or tablet holds 111 mg of magnesium.

Is cheap magnesium glycinate as good as expensive?

For the magnesium itself, yes, if the label names glycinate (or bisglycinate) and nothing else. No trial has compared glycinate brands. A higher price can buy a public testing list that checks the dose against the label: of the 8 we price, Nature Made (USP Verified) and Thorne (NSF/ANSI 173) are on one that checks the label. Revive MD is on Informed Sport, which tests every batch for drugs banned in sport. 56.4% of glycinate labels also name another magnesium form, so read the form in brackets.

Is magnesium glycinate powder cheaper than capsules?

Usually, at list prices. Powder means no capsules to pay for, but you measure each dose, it tastes bitter, and a level scoop is only roughly the label amount.
