What is the cheapest certified magnesium glycinate?

Nature’s Truth Magnesium Glycinate, among products whose list checks the label. Here is the cheapest in each form:

Glycinate only, on a public testing list. Cost of 200 mg of magnesium at the brand’s list price.
FormCheapest on a list
CapsulesRevive MD Pure Magnesium Glycinate, $0.33 (Informed Sport)
PowderCodeage Liposomal Magnesium Glycinate Powder, $0.50 (NSF/ANSI 173)
GummiesNature Made Magnesium Glycinate Gummies, $2.10 (USP Verified). The only one we found.

Some products sold as glycinate also mix in magnesium oxide. Why that matters.

Which magnesium glycinate is NSF certified?

6 of the glycinates above are on an NSF list. The cheapest is Nature’s Truth Magnesium Glycinate, on NSF/ANSI 173, which checks that the bottle holds what the label says. Core Med Science Magnesium Bisglycinate (#1810008) and Thorne Magnesium Bisglycinate Powder (#1507934) are also on NSF Certified for Sport, which screens each lot for banned drugs. Thorne’s capsules are on NSF/ANSI 173 only.

Is NOW magnesium glycinate third-party tested?

Not on a public list. NOW has no listings on NSF/ANSI 173, and its glycinate tablets and bisglycinate powder are not on USP Verified, Informed Choice or Informed Sport. Its NPA GMP seal is a factory audit, not a test of the bottle.

Not on any testing list (6)

We found no listing for these on the five public lists we searched. That is not a failed test: brands pay to join, and many do not. It means no outside group lists them for you to check.

Is your glycinate really glycinate?

Not always. Some products sold as glycinate also contain magnesium oxide, the cheap form the body absorbs less well (NIH). Oxide packs more magnesium into each gram, so a blend can print a bigger number for less money. These 2 are on a testing list, and their labels are honest about the blend:

  1. Codeage Liposomal Magnesium Glycinate (capsules)

NSF Certified for Sport #1785061NSF/ANSI 173

350 mg of magnesium in 4 capsules, from glycinate and oxide

    $0.57 per 200 mg

    Check price
  2. Designs for Sport Magnesium Bisglycinate

    NSF Certified for Sport #1778775

300 mg of magnesium in 2 capsules, from glycinate and oxide

    $0.40 per 200 mg

    Check price

Read the words in brackets on the magnesium line. “(as magnesium glycinate)” or “(as magnesium bisglycinate)” means glycinate only. If oxide is named too, it is a blend. When oxide is not on the label, it should not be in the bottle. In November 2025, Health Canada recalled two 200 mg magnesium bisglycinate products, Life Brand and MapleLife, because they held magnesium oxide the label did not list. NSF/ANSI 173 also checks for ingredients the label does not list, so it can catch that.

What does each program check?

The five lists we search, in our words.
ProgramWhat it tells you
USP VerifiedThe bottle holds what the label says, with no harmful levels of listed contaminants. USP also tests bottles bought from stores.
NSF/ANSI 173The bottle holds what the label says and nothing else, with no harmful levels of contaminants. Not a banned-drug test.
NSF Certified for SportEverything NSF/ANSI 173 checks, plus a screen of each lot for drugs banned in sport. You can match your lot number.
Informed ChoiceStore-bought samples are tested for drugs banned in sport, at least monthly. Not a contents check.
Informed SportEvery batch is tested for drugs banned in sport before it is sold. Not a contents check.

Only a banned-drug program matters if you are drug-tested in sport. Only a contents program checks that the label is right.

How to check your own bottle

  1. Look for a USP Verified or NSF mark on the bottle. “Third-party tested” with no program named is the brand’s word.
  2. Search the program’s own list by company, then match the product name and form. A brand can have one product listed and others not.
  3. On NSF Certified for Sport, match the lot number on your bottle to the listing.
  4. No mark? Ask the brand for its lab report. A useful one names the lab, the lot number and the magnesium result.
  5. Read the magnesium line: the form in brackets and the mg. That mg is the magnesium itself.

Questions

Is Nature Made magnesium glycinate USP Verified?

Yes. USP’s own list includes “Nature Made High Absorption Magnesium Glycinate 200mg Capsules” and the glycinate gummies (read October 20, 2026). They are the only USP Verified glycinates we found: the capsules cost $0.73 and the gummies $2.10 per 200 mg. We did not find Nature Made’s magnesium oxide tablets on USP’s list.

Is Thorne magnesium NSF Certified for Sport?

Not the capsules. Thorne Magnesium Glycinate capsules are on NSF/ANSI 173, which checks what is in the bottle. NSF Certified for Sport lists Thorne’s Magnesium Bisglycinate powder (#1507934) and stick packs, a different product.

Is BulkSupplements magnesium glycinate pure glycinate?

No. Its label says “Magnesium (as Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Oxide) 300mg.” It is on NSF/ANSI 173, which checks that the label is accurate, and the label is honest about the blend. Every product in the list above is glycinate only.

Is Doctor’s Best magnesium third-party tested?

Doctor’s Best High Absorption Magnesium is not on NSF/ANSI 173, NSF Certified for Sport, USP Verified, Informed Choice or Informed Sport. NSF has no listings for the company.

Does “third-party tested” on a label mean anything?

On its own, no. The phrase has no legal definition. What counts is whether you can check it: is the exact product on a public list, or does the brand post a lab report with a lot number you can match to your bottle?

How much magnesium glycinate should I take?

Keep magnesium from supplements at or under 350 mg a day, the adult upper limit (NIH). Food does not count toward it. Count the magnesium line on the label, not the weight of the glycinate. How much magnesium per day.
