What “2,000 mg” on a label can mean

Some labels print a fresh-fruit equivalent. tnvitamins says 2,000 mg, but each capsule holds 100 mg of extract, far below the trial amounts. Read the Supplement Facts panel for the extract milligrams.

Taking a statin? Ask first.

We found no study showing a harmful mix, and one small open-label trial added bergamot to a statin (Gliozzi 2013). Do not change a statin without your doctor.

How much citrus bergamot per day

Lipid trials ran 30 days to six months (Toth 2016) and gave 375 mg a day of a standardized extract (Yu 2026) up to 1,300 mg of a pectin-enriched juice formulation (Capomolla 2019). The two cleanest recent trials gave a standardized extract with 150 mg of flavonoids a day for four months, and LDL cholesterol fell 7% and 11.5% (Yu 2026; Spina 2024). One small trial at 500 mg a day, in people taking antipsychotic medicine, found no change (Bruno 2017).

How to take it

  • Take the label serving each day: two capsules for most products here.
  • Keep taking any medicine your doctor prescribed; bergamot is not a replacement.

Enter the numbers from your label. You will see your mg of extract a day, and the polyphenols in it if your label states a percent.

Questions people ask

Does the polyphenol percent matter?

It tells you what you are getting. The cleanest recent trials gave 150 mg of bergamot flavonoids a day (Spina 2024; Yu 2026). Most labels state no percent, so you cannot compare them with those trials.

How long until I see a change?

Trials measured cholesterol after 30 days to six months; the two cleanest after four months (Spina 2024; Yu 2026). Ask your doctor about a blood test after a few months.
