Which has more protein, and is it the same protein?
Transparent Labs has more protein a scoop: 28 g, against 24 g. Its scoop is bigger, too (34.3 g against 30.4 g). The real difference is the kind of whey. Transparent Labs is all whey isolate, from grass-fed cows. Gold Standard mixes isolate, concentrate and whey peptides.

Which builds more muscle?
Neither, at the same protein. If you take 25 g of protein from either tub, the labels give no reason to expect a different result. How much you need a day: protein dosage guide.
Are both third-party tested?
Yes. Both are on Informed Choice, and only the Transparent Labs tub we link is also on NSF Certified for Sport.
- Both: Informed Choice. It lists both product lines. Informed Choice buys samples from stores and tests them for substances banned in sport.
- Transparent Labs: also NSF Certified for Sport, in the 30-serving French Vanilla tub we link. NSF tests lot by lot, so check the lot number on your tub against the listing.
- Gold Standard: NSF lists the 10 lb tub only. The 5 lb tub we link is not on that list.
Which is better if lactose bothers you?
Transparent Labs, because it is all whey isolate. Whey isolate has much less lactose (milk sugar) than whey concentrate. Gold Standard has some concentrate, but it adds lactase, the enzyme that breaks lactose down. Whey is a milk protein, so neither powder is safe for a milk allergy.
Which is the better value?
Gold Standard. Transparent Labs costs about 30% more per gram of protein.
On Amazon (November 6, 2026), Gold Standard’s 5 lb tub is $105.99 for 74 scoops of 24 g of protein: $1.49 per 25 g. Transparent Labs is $64.99 for 30 scoops of 28 g: $1.93 per 25 g. A scoop costs $2.17 for Transparent Labs and $1.43 for Gold Standard. At 25 g of protein a day, Transparent Labs costs about $13 more a month.
The big tub helps Gold Standard, but it wins at the same size too. Its 2 lb tub (29 scoops, $49.15) costs $1.77 per 25 g, still less than Transparent Labs.
Amazon prices move. Every protein powder we price, cheapest per 25 g first, is in protein powder prices.
