Our recommendation
Buy Gnarly Performance Greens
Its label prints an amount for every ingredient, with no blends. NSF/ANSI 173 checks that the tub holds what the label says and that lead and other heavy metals stay under set limits.
Buy on Amazon · $54.55- Want the lowest cost on both NSF lists? BPN Strong Greens is $1.50 a serving. It has one blend of 2,500 mg with no amounts inside it. We picked Gnarly because it prints every ingredient amount.
- Want AG1? AG1 is on the same two lists, at $3.33 a serving.

Costs are the Amazon one-time price divided by the servings in the tub, read November 6, 2026. Listings were read October 1, 2026. We count a listing only when it names the same product and pack.
NSF/ANSI 173 also lists Thorne Daily Greens Plus, Nutrilite Organics Green Superfood (Amway), up&up Greens & Superfoods Powder (Target) and LTH Life Greens. We do not link those. NSF list read from its August 25, 2026 snapshot.
What the lead record looks like for greens powders
Lead has turned up in greens powders before. ConsumerLab tested greens and whole-food powders in 2019 and found lead in one. It did not name the product or give an amount. AG1 was not in that test.
From July to September 2026, a California group, the Center for Consumer Safety, filed at least 11 Prop 65 notices over lead in greens powders sold on Amazon. AG1’s refill pouch is one of them (notice 2026-04317, September 8, 2026). A notice says a warning is missing. It is a legal claim, not a lab result, and it gives no lead amount.
NSF/ANSI 173 is the list that sets a lead limit for each product. The sport lists below check for banned substances, not lead. NSF does not print the lead number for each listing, so a listing means the product met the limits.

What does each list check?
| List | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| NSF/ANSI 173 | Checks that what the label says is in the tub, and that lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium stay under set limits. It does not screen for banned substances. |
| NSF Certified for Sport | Checks the label and tests each certified lot for banned substances. It is the program athletes use. |
| Informed Sport | Tests every batch for banned substances before it is sold. |
| Informed Choice | Buys samples from stores at least monthly and tests them for banned substances. |
How to check your own tub
- Search NSF’s dietary supplement list for the exact product name and scoop size.
- If it is on NSF Certified for Sport, match the lot number on your tub to the lots in the listing.
- Skip a label that only says “third-party tested” with no list or lab named.
- Prefer a label that prints an amount for every ingredient, so you can see what you are paying for.

Questions
Which greens powders are tested for heavy metals?
Gnarly Performance Greens, BPN Strong Greens, AG1 and Designs for Sport Pro Greens + Reds are on NSF/ANSI 173, the program that sets limits for lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium. The list does not print the lead number for each product, so a listing means the product met the limits.
Is AG1 third-party tested?
Yes. The 360 g AG1 pouch is on NSF/ANSI 173 and NSF Certified for Sport, and Informed Choice lists the AG1 line. A California group filed a Prop 65 lead notice about AG1’s refill pouch in September 2026. That is a legal claim, not a lab result.
Is Gnarly Performance Greens worth it?
Yes, if you want AG1’s testing at a lower price. It also prints an amount for every ingredient, and AG1 uses blends.
